Deep freeze

Brutal is the only word that I can think of right now to describe our weather for the next few days and these are the predicted temperatures without the windchill (which will add/subtract another 10 degrees or so).

Two more runs in the books this week. On Tuesday I only had time for 4 miles on the treadmill yesterday after work but today was able to get outdoors despite the cold. After bundling up with 3 layers on the legs and 4 for the upper body it was off into the -20C conditions. The roads were very treacherous with the thin layer of slush over most of the main roads so I headed off for a sheltered area with a good hill and did my workout there. After 2 repeats of a 1.5 mile circuit including a 1/2 mile hill it was time to return into the teeth of the cold north wind. Total of 7.5 miles in about 65 minutes.

Pushups: max test on Monday of 60 got me to week 6 level 3 which I completed Day 1 this morning before work. Nothing like throwing down 215 pushups to start the day off! The arms were shakey driving in...

That's it for now, time to head out to volleyball. Have a good week and thanks for sending any warm thoughts or winds in my direction!

If it was -20, what were the roads doing being slushy? Well done on the pushup, I have my post week #4 test tomorrow. 60 eh, impressive!

Well done for venturing out in that weather. Good work on the press ups also.

For a moment, I thought that was the weather forcast for deep space. Yikes! You stay safe and warm in that stuff.

Nice job with the pushups.

Michael, good question, at the time the temperature was falling from about 0 to -17 in a matter of hours and the salt and sand left a messy slime. It's still here today with temps in the -20's. Good luck with your test.

Brrr, fer sure! Nice job getting outside despite it being slick. Runs in this weather only make us appreciate spring and summer that much more. It's a fine trade-off in my book.

I hate this cold.

This is why I read your blog Mike. I can run on mid-winter afternoons in 4C and think about how 'mild' it is :)

I guess -32C would really test the 'freeze-proof' claims of your Olympus!

running in -15 - now that's dedication!! I've thought of a new invention "the strap on hot water bottle for runners". I wonder if there'd be any market for it?? On reflection, probably not - most sane people would stay indoors!! :)

Nasty conditions for sure. Hopefully the warm weather we are experiencing out west will make it's way to you soon!
